Countess Sapphira's Gown

Pictured with Countess Saphira’s skirt and stomacher and worn over Bess stays, petticoat and chemise.

A luxurious and bold three-piece ensemble, this gown of embroidered blue taffeta features an intricate trim on the sleeve cuffs which also frames the front of the dress. The trim is made from velvet ribbon, gathered tulle, ribbon roses and striking Capri-blue Swarovski crystal beads which have been sewn on by hand. Black French coupure lace edges the sleeve cuffs. The skirt of the dress can be gathered up with chord that loops around two taffeta covered buttons attached to the back waistline or worn down for a different look. As was traditional in the 18th century, the wearer is sewn into the dress with invisible stitches connecting the dress to the heavily beaded stomacher.
