The Firebird

The Firebird dress was inspired by the Tayledras Mages featured in Mercedes Lackey Valdemar fantasy series. Made with "mandarin" chiffon and lined in "burnt orange" chiffon, a bird-like feel is created with the metre-length train, floor-length sleeves (which feature an asymmetric embroidered feather design) and a flowing movement created with the two layers of chiffon. The back does up with 21 chiffon-covered buttons. Despite the train, the skirt has a fishtailed cut at the front. An overlapping neckline gives the dress an Oriental touch.
